It’s All Queens on 4th July!

The Foreign Office, strait-laced guardian of a global empire in Victorian times, has embraced the 21st century by offering special advice to gay and lesbian travellers.

Amazon A-Go-Go

I love Amazon. They’re the way the world should do the online shopping experience.

Then again, I hate Amazon. They keep recommending stuff I want so I buy it.

But just now, I love them. I got my first two reviews published:

Start Up – Jerry Kaplan
Piloting Palm – Andrea Butter and David Pogue

Finally – CSS

Well, at last. I think I have an idea about CSS. I have now realised that IE and Mozilla won’t quite look at things in the same way.

“Remember, IE5/Win gets the box model wrong by absorbing padding and margins without adjusting the overall width. 67% is approximately what 52% looks like after you add padding and margins.”

It didn’t quite take me 14 hours but I am getting there ;-(

Scooby Thoughts

Scooby-Doo Movie Poster, 2002
Scooby-Doo Movie, 2002

Looking back, I do have to say Scooby Doo was a great film. If one of the goals of cinema is to entertain then this was a successful film. If another of the goals of cinema is to provide escapism then, again, this was a successful film. I believe I am the only person I know who thinks this. That, of course, makes me right and everybody else wrong (kind of).

2005: Memories

In My Thoughts

My grandad was born on 1 July so it would have been his birthday yesterday. He died several years ago and I have to say that I miss him. I lit a candle at St Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday. I just had the urge. I wonder why I did that? I am not the most spiritual person in the world nor am I the greatest believer. St Paul’s was so peaceful and relaxing I think I will go again. And it’s really beautiful inside – which is something I had never noticed before.

Last Weekend in June

Blog the weekend. Well, what a weekend it was – nothing exciting or deep to say but a few things that surprised me.

About a boySurprise One: saw Hugh Grant in About A Boy on Friday night and it was great. It was touching without being too sappy and Hugh himself wasnÂ’’t the wet blanket he often plays. And I only went because the tickets were free. How sad is that?

Saturday was a fantastic trip to melt some credit card plastic at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. Spend, spend, spend – why do I continue to spend while I am running out of money? Still, the weather was nice and it was a day out.

Now Gunwharf Quays has a Gap Outlet store. And the survey tells me I am a gap man:

What kind of clothes should I be wearing? by Evelyn / Survey no longer available

But why is the content of Gap Outlets always very poor indeed? I am always disappointed.

Then, Sunday morning, saw a preview of Scooby Doo. Now, some people donÂ’’t like it. I thought it was great. A harmless, mildly-amusing, childish kids flick. And for that, it was good.
