I enjoy reading but don't get through as many books as I would like to. I have a huge list of books that I would like to read (but don't yet own) and an ever-growing stack of books that I've bought in the hope I get round to them soon.

Sometime in 2002 I started to write a short review of all the books I have read. I do this for two reasons. Firstly, I find other people's reviews on Amazon to be pretty helpful when I am trying to determine if a book I think is interesting is going to be worth the money and, therefore, I contribute my own reviews back. Secondly, and the main reason I started keeping a note of the books I read, is that I often need a trigger to remind myself of the content of the books I've read. Just a few words and it all comes flooding back. These books serve as that trigger.

I try and write the reviews as close to the date that I finish the book as I can, but regardless, they are all logged on the date I finished the book rather than the date I wrote the comments. Thus, I can see that sometimes I read in spurts. I guess the faster I read the book the better I think it is (although, of course, it could be a short tome).
